Shingles May Increase An Individual's Risk Of Heart Attack, Stroke, Research Suggests.

Reuters (7/3, Larkin) reported that research suggests "getting shingles may increase" a person's "risk of a heart attack, stroke or other heart problems." The findings were published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

        MedPage Today (7/3, Bachert) reported that "in propensity score-matched analysis, herpes zoster reactivation – also known as shingles – raised the risks of the composite of cardiovascular events, stroke, and myocardial infarction (MI) by 41%, 35%, and 59%, respectively, compared with people without herpes zoster."
