White House to Announce Ban of Some E-Cigarette Flavors

The White House is expected to announce a ban on some flavored e-cigarette cartridges this week, according to news reports. The ban will likely include mint, fruit, and dessert flavors, but not menthol.
However, flavored liquid nicotine that's used in open tank systems — commonly found in vape shops — can still be sold, the New York Timesreports. And the ban may not last long.
"We think we are going to get back in the market very, very quickly," President Donald Trump said at a news conference, as reported by the Times. "We have a very big industry. We're going to take care of the industry."
In September, administration officials said the FDA would propose banning all flavored e-cigarette products, including mint and menthol, given the high prevalence of teen use.
In response to the latest news, American Heart Association CEO Nancy Brown said: "By allowing menthol flavors and flavored liquid nicotine used in open tank systems to remain on the market, the administration would leave a wide pathway for continued e-cigarette use among our nation's children."
