Varicella and Herpes Zoster Appearing Over Sites of Tinea Corporis

International Journal of Dermatology

TAKE-HOME MESSAGE

The images in this article are amazing. The vesicles of chickenpox home in on areas of tinea corporis or recently treated tinea corporis with amazing alacrity, especially at the advancing margin of the tinea patches. This suggests that the innate immune system's "attack" on the dermatophyte is lessening immune surveillance toward "herpes zoster" virus carried throughout the body in the bloodstream, but affecting the skin only in these immunocompromised districts. Interested readers should read the article by Ruocco et al.1
