PRACTICE PEARLSPain associated with chronic leg ulcers can be signif-icant and impact wound healing and health-relatedquality of life.Topical lidocaine/prilocaine 5% cream is effective forrelieving pain during the debridement of chronic leg ulcers.Topical lidocaine/prilocaine 5% cream and ibupro-fen foam may be promising alternatives to oral painmedications to treat chronic wound-related pain.Evidence for the use of topical analgesics and localanesthetic agents to treat painful chronic leg ulcers isinconsistent. Further research is needed.
