Plasma Levels of TNF-α and Adiponectin Differentiate Psoriatic Arthritis From Psoriasis
TAKE-HOME MESSAGE
- This study included 180 patients with only psoriasis (PsO) and 143 patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Median plasma levels of TNF‐α were significantly higher in patients with PsA compared with those with PsO (3.27 vs 1.32 pg/mL; P<.001). High levels of TNF-α were associated with increased odds of PsA (aOR, 2.25). However, median total adiponectin was lower among patients with PsA, with a significantly inverse association between high levels of total adiponectin and the likelihood of PsA (aOR, 0.61).
- Larger studies are needed to develop a clinically relevant screening test for prediction of PsA using circulating biomarkers.
