By Amy Orciari Herman
Edited by André Sofair, MD, MPH, and William E. Chavey, MD, MS
The Mediterranean Diet has again earned top honors as the best overall diet in U.S. News & World Report's annual diet rankings. The DASH and flexitarian diets tied for second place.
Here are some of the winners in other categories:
- Best diet for weight loss: WW (Weight Watchers) came in first, while vegan and volumetric diets tied for second.
- Best diet for diabetes: The Mediterranean diet came out on top, with four diets tying for second — DASH, flexitarian, Mayo Clinic, and vegan.
- Best for heart health: The Ornish diet was the winner here, followed by Mediterranean and then DASH.
Of note, the keto diet — popular with many consumers — ranked second to last (34 of 35) on the list of best overall diets.
