Researchers Say OCT Can Help Distinguish Between Different Inflammatory Scalp Disorders
Dermatology Advisor (4/7, May) reports a small study published in the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology suggests that "optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a noninvasive imaging approach that can accurately identify features of and distinguish between different types of inflammatory scalp disorders." The researchers found that OCT could distinguish between contact dermatitis, psoriasis, and biopsy-proven seborrheic dermatitis, but cautioned that the study had few participants and that there are several barriers to the "use of dynamic OCT in the clinical setting."
