People With SSc May Be Between Two And Three Times More Likely To Experience GI Bleeding Than People Without SSc, Researchers Say
Medwire News (1/7, Cowen) reports, "People with systemic sclerosis (SSc) are between two and three times more likely to experience gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding than people without the autoimmune condition," researchers concluded in a study that "included 3665 patients with SSc and 18,325 controls matched for age, sex, and year of diagnosis who were all identified from a national longitudinal health insurance database" in Taiwan. Researchers found that "overall, 5.2% of people with SSc and 3.7% of controls experienced GI bleeding during a mean 5.3 and 5.8 years of follow-up, respectively." The findings were published online in Arthritis Research & Therapy.
