Compared With General Population Patients With Atopic Dermatitis May Have High Risk For Developing Asthma, Meta-Analysis Indicates
Dermatology Advisor (3/30, May) reports, "Compared with the general population, patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) have a higher risk for developing asthma," investigators concluded in a 213-study meta-analysis that included "a pooled cohort of 688,927 patients with AD and 2,223,921 reference participants." The meta-analysis revealed that "in patients with AD and reference participants, the overall pooled prevalence of asthma was 25.7%" and "8.1%...respectively." The findings were published online in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.
